On my first year of Christmas, I was trapped in a giant gift box.
The monsters inside spared me and I was relieved.
But soon they grew hungry and tore me apart as their Christmas dinner.
They devoured me lustfully, making sure the pain was as excruciating as possible.

One my second year of Christmas, the elves ran out of wrapping paper.
To wrap all the gifts for the good children, oh they were in catatonic despair!
I soon grew tired of their cries and offered myself to be converted to wrapping paper.
Soon I was skinned alive and my skin was used to wrap toys and candy canes.

On my third year of Christmas, a poor beggar was sobbing near the lamp post.
I asked what's wrong, and he replied he longed for a warm Christmas feast.
I gave him the permission to roast me, and thus his act of cannibalism began.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni Review

Umineko no Naku Koro ni

After the phenomenal Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series have finally ended, Ryukishi 07, the author of the said series released another mystery horror series titled Umineko no Naku Koro ni, literally meaning When Seagulls Cry ( Higurashi no Naku Koro ni also translates to something similar, When Cicadas Cry ). Soon, just like its predecessor ( The worlds of these two series are not connected, but it is hinted the world of Higurashi was a very small... Let’s just say ‘fragment’ in the Umineko series ), it soon gained mass popularity, and again, just like its predecessor, an anime inspired by the series was aired.

-Storyline-

On 1983, the Ushiromiya family was invited to Rokkenjima island ( that was entirely owned by them, you’ll see why) to discuss about who will be the next successor of the grand Ushiromiya empire. Kinzo Ushiromiya, the current head of the Ushiromiya family only had three months again to live, and choosing a successor that will inherit the vast wealth of the famed Ushiromiya empire from his four children would be a difficult task. You see, they were the kind of people who’ll massacre the whole world just to get their hands on the valuable assets of the Ushiromiya empire, and a successor means only ONE of them will be the successor of the Ushiromiya empire. So, how about if we give them a fun test to be the head of the Ushiromiya family?

No, I’m not kidding. Seriously.

Long ago, in the late of 1800’s and 1900’s, the Ushiromiya family was very prosperous.They owned several spinning mills for their main income. But in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, ( Geez, earthquakes just love the Japanese) they lost their spinning mills and most of the members of their family. Kinzo Ushiromiya was the one who was tasked to revive the Ushiromiya empire. Utilizing what’s left of the family and his great luck, he managed to make the Ushiromiya family more prosperous than ever in just 20 years. There was a legend about how he managed to find the sources of the fundings of reviving the Ushiromiya family. Kinzo told everybody he stumbled across the Great Witch Beatrice ( Oh boy ). They made a deal, with him trading his soul with fame and wealth, and he managed to obtain TEN TONNES of GOLD. FROM THE WITCH.

Battler Ushiromiya,the son of one of the Ushiromiya siblings, doubted about the legend. He was a firm, thick headed guy who didn’t buy the whole “I met a witch and got lucky” theory.

And that’s why he had to suffer from replays of the massacre of his family. Believe me, it was NOT a pretty sight. At all.

The whole Ushiromiya family was sacrificed by Beatrice to revive her magical powers. She didn’t kill them nicely, trust me. Once again, this show is restricted from people who are under 17. There’s a MOUNTAIN of blood and ON-SCREEN gore ( Unlike Higurashi, this show’s violence is FAR MORE EXTREME. For people who have watched Higurashi, I’m sorry to say this but Higurashi is nothing compared to Umineko if it’s about the amount of graphic violence. And for people who don’t watch Higurashi, nothing actually means A LOT.), and extreme profanity as well. Since thick-headed Battler stubbornly refused to acknowledge witches and magic exist, he got thrown off from what I assumed to be the afterlife to battle the Golden and Endless Witch herself, Beatrice, in a game of intelligence and wits. To win, he must prove all the magic murders to be something that normal humans could do. Which is ridiculous since everybody was indeed killed magically. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out his chances of winning are slim. Slimmer than supermodels nowadays. Will he be able to defeat the arrogant and sadistic Golden Witch, Beatrice? Will he be able to break the fate of the 18 people on Rokkenjima island on 1983 of getting killed? Will he be able to deny the existence of Witches? What is the epitaph really about?

-Review-

Story: 8/10

Amazingly written story that combines both Phoenix Wright style of reasonings and also non-cliche drama. All the gore and terror didn’t feel like it was forcefully pushed into the story and became a major power and signature of the series.The magic aspect of the series is also very refreshing. Characters have emotional depths that, no matter how bitchy or annoying the characters are, make us sympathize with their fates. All the brain freezing stuff from the visual novels are are explained quite clearly. But most of the time I also felt like I had to repeat a particular scene just to fully understand a major argument or theory. But maybe I’m just that dumb. And the ending is a cliffhanger. Maybe because there’s supposed to be a sequel ( The later arcs of the visual novels are titled Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru ) but an anime adaptation is not going to air? What a shame. Maybe because the fans of the visual novel decided the anime adaptation was trashy and terrible. Well, I haven’t checked the visual novel yet... I just got some info from the Wiki. And it turns out the reason fans are whining is because most of the evidence needed by Battler to support his theory that witches don’t exist are missing in the anime. But the anime covered the problem quite nicely though. For me.

+ Well-written and is just OH.SO.AMAZING. The super complicated and detailed plot totally make sense!
- Sometimes can be too complicated to digest on the spot. And fans of the original visual novel HATE the anime because of the lack of sufficient details.

Visual: 7/10

The characters designs are gorgeous. The animation is also quite beautiful. But the coloring can be bland at times and sometimes I see characters being a little deformed, even though it’s not intended as a gory scene. And do they have to make gory scenes that DETAILED? Well, I’m not interested to see human guts being spread out. But still, I love all the slasher smiles and the insane looks on the characters’ faces.

+ Gorgeous character designs. I’m having a little crush on Battler and Kanon.
- Coloring : Not so impressive. And the GORE.

Music: 9/10

For music, it certainly is unique. I love ‘magical medieval’ music, so Umineko’s music is easy to love for me. It fits the moods of the anime well. Actually, most of the BGM ( Background Music ) comes from the visual novel. They’re awesome. Try listening to “Happiness of Marionette”, my personal favorite. The opening of the series, “Katayoku no Tori” or “One-winged Bird” sung by Akiko Shikata is enchanting. She has a real unique voice, and the opening fits well with the theme of the anime. The ending is quite awesome too, titled “La Divina Tragedia ~Makyoku~ ” sung by Jimang. At first his voice disturbed me, but in the end I started to like the song.

+ Music is enchanting.
- The ending theme was at first annoying to me. Paranoia, Paranoia, Para Para... Para Para Paradise? And the "Yami no kirisaku oh DESIRE! SACRIFICE SHEEP TO GOOOOOOOD!!!" Sheep!?!?

Voice Acting: 9/10

The voice actors are all amazing. Special mention goes toYui Horie who voices the cute but slightly psychotic Maria Ushiromiya ( who voices Hanyuu in Higurashi, by the way ), Sayaka Ohara who voices the Golden Witch Beatrice, and Miki Itou who voices the creepy but somehow appealing Eva Ushiromiya and another major character ... ( She also voices Miyo Takano from Higurashi ). There are several of my favorite voice actors ( Rie Kugimiya voices Shannon, Daisuke Ono voices Battler Ushiromiya , Yukari Tamura as Bernkastel, Miki Itou as Eva Ushiromiya and Aki Toyosaki as one of the Seven Sisters of Purgatory. I don’t know which one, though ), and the fact some voice actors have to voice different types of characters than the types they normally voice is very interesting. Rie Kugimiya who is well-known as the Queen of tsundere (Characters who are harsh at the outside but has a warmer side that they hide ) characters voices the family-oriented, kind hearted and feminime Shannon, while Daisuke Ono who normally voices cool, calm and collected men voices Battler Ushiromiya who’s a fiery lad. They nailed the difficult task though. Bravo and brava.

+ They successfully portrayed the not so ordinary characters.
- Somehow I wasn’t really scared when a character was looking scary visually but not so much orally. There’s several moments of this.

Hola amigas~! Otakucyn is back~! Well, I don't really plan to write anything interesting. My life is quiteeeee plain and ordinary. I'm also not the type to share everything in my life with people, soooo yep. I have no idea of what to write. Well, can anyone suggests ANYTHING for me to write by commenting? Thank you~! P.S: I posted a picture of Rena Ryuuguu from the Higurashi series. Her condition in Tsumihoroboroshi-hen or the Atonement Chapter is perfectly suitable with the poem. Well, I actually based the poem in my fading belief that God is still up there, taking care of us. Yes, all you religious people can start spamming me for this. This is MY belief, so if you trash talk me for this I'll make sure you'll be the sacrifice for the next Onikakushi,'kay~?

Halloween was a Blast!

For Halloween, I cosplayed as Beatrice ( pronounced Bea-to-ri-che, the Italian style ) from the visual novel series Umineko no Naku Koro ni or When the Seagulls Cry ( the sister series of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni or When the Cicadas Cry, but they don't have any direct relations in their storylines). She's basically the major antagonist at first, but in the end turns into a protagonist. She's the most powerful witch in the world ( The person is entitled Beatrice, so Beatrice's real name is currently unknown ), a.k.a the Ruler of the Golden Land.

When I arrived at my school for the Halloween Party, people were taken aback by my appearance. Why? Everything's summed up in this pic:

And there you go! My transformation was a success ( Minus the fact I didn't have the tattoo on my right leg. It's... Well, I'm attending my SCHOOL'S Halloween Party! ) People were asking me if they could take photos with me, and to be honest, I LOVE the attention! But some parts of my wig fell off during the party, so in the end I looked like a monstrous and blonde Grandma. Urrrgh, why my wig, WHY!!!??? This is also my first experience in cosplaying, so I'm sorry if something sucks.

I didn't actually enter any of the attractions. I'm a HUGE coward, so I didn't enter the Haunted House at all. I spent Halloween enjoying the food sold in the party. Aaaah, they're really delicious, nano desu~! Except for the tarot reading booth. The fortuneteller was extremely accurate at depicting my biggest problem this year, and I was like "What the--? How could you!!!". That fortuneteller is the first person to know the real and genuine reason why I have always been so gloomy *applauds the fortuneteller*.

HALLOWEEN IS COMING!

Aaaah, Halloween~! It's going to arrive in just two more days~! I'm going to cosplay as an anime character for this year! Who is it, you ask? Well, I'll post about it after the Halloween. Spoilers suck for the majority of people. My close friends know about it, so if you're not one, expect to be uninformed and be completely dazzled on Halloween! I hope this year's Halloween is even better than the already great Halloween we had last year! I'm thinking of actually entering the Haunted House this year. I didn't enter last year since I was such a chicken XD. Haaah, I just hope I will not be mentally scarred after the entry.

Me Being Mean

A&W cheese burgers are so addicting! It has spotless buns, a great mash of mustard and tomato sauce ,the richest grilled beef you can ever have and a slice of intoxicating cheese. The best part of it is that it doesn't contain any kinds of vegetables ( Except if you don't ask for the pickles to be removed ;) ) ! Seriously, A&W's cheese burger is my dream burger!

So, yes, when you read the first post in my blog your brain will suggest that you should leave this blog since this will be a crap-tastic post judging by the weird introduction that sounds like a commercial, so you're free to go now. No, I'm serious, you can just stop reading right now. I won't get mad since I can't track people who actually read my blog or just skips the entire thing. I'll be honest: I don't know what should I write in this blog. But since my English teacher will literally kill me, I'm going to at least talk about something that interests me ( But maybe the perfect snooze button for you... Just a little warning won't hurt ;) ). Hrmph... How should I start?

Oh, maybe I can talk about the UN day. So for UN day celebration in my school, we're going to have the SECOND movie festival! I'm so happy...... NOT. Okay, this might hurt a lot of teachers, but I'm being pretty sincere here. I mean, most of the students in my school didn't actually create their fancy UN movies for last year's festival by themselves. They had their Kungfu Pandas ( my class mentor, who's also my business teacher, nicknames tuition teachers as Kungfu Pandas. Yes, I also can't understand why. By the way, check out the movies. It's brilliant.) do their work for them. Oh, about the test the teachers gave out to test the students' knowledge about the topics they took for their UN vid? The students just memorized the necessary things regarding their topics just for the test. Seriously, it's really silly to have another project like this. IT'S RIDICULOUS. Students who actually worn out their own butts for their projects last year couldn't come up with something that was as spectacular as the students who had tuition teachers doing their work for them did so they weren't the ones who weren't recognized for their efforts, so this particular group of students are all groaning in despair since they know the students who have tuition teachers will beat them again. What's more, we have to turn up a research paper this year! I'm pretty sure tuition teachers will do all the work again in this category. Yes, I'm being mean. Why? Because I FINALLY have the chance to be mean. I hate being so kind that people will use you, and that you have to bow down to them because you're supposed to be nice to them. So, yes, I'm being mean.

Why?

First, I am feeling very guilty that I forgot where my best friend's birthday party was. I missed out the whole thing. Even though she forgave me, but I'm still scared she might hate me. Every single friend of mine is precious. I'm such a dumb, terrible jerk who doesn't deserve any friend.

Have you ever regretted of making friends? I know it sounds mean, but now I feel I kind of regret being friends with someone.

So, I have this friend in my life who made me regret the fact he was my first real friend in my new school. Let's call him Mark. He was basically the only person in my first year in the school who was super friendly to me. I felt very happy with his kind treatment of me, so I decided to become best friends with him. I've never had real friends, since I don't trust people. In my old school, people mostly became my friends because I was rich even though I acted like a total jerk ( which is still an understatement). But in my new school, I slightly dropped my guard down since people in my school are already rich ( Even though most of them behave like total snobs ). Mark was the only friend that mattered to me, but then soon I discover more friends. I was so happy I still shed tears when I remember those days.

Then in my second school year, I was in a circle of best friends. I enjoyed every little amount time I spent with them. I especially got close with Mark, 'Lucy' and 'Harold'. We were the closest, the center of the circle. I was enjoying those times until the cursed day of February 14, 2010 arrived. That day was the beginning of the disasters in my new life.

A week before that fated day, we all promised to hang out together. But unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to go even though I told them I would come. Lucy couldn't come at all from the start because of some reasons, while Harold was traveling somewhere far from my city. He was forced by his parents to join them and he didn't have time to contact us that the hang-out was cancelled.. Mark, being the sole person who appeared to our meeting place, had to wait for hours until he finally decided to go home by himself. He formed a grudge against Harold, thinking he set him up to be left alone, and from the start of our friendship Mark already disliked Harold.

Then, on the 14th of February, 2010...

Harold told me he was backstabbed by Mark. I can't go into details in this one, but all I could say is that Lucy started to hate Harold because of Mark. I sided with Harold and kept being friends with Lucy but I gave Mark the silent treatment. It continued like this until the start of my third school year. Lucy and Harold are friends again, and I finally made up with Mark. But Mark still won't forgive Harold for what he did. Looks like Mark has a habit of turning friends into enemies, since now he is being enemies with a lot of his formerly very close friends. Mark is a selfish and arrogant individual after all, and these traits are not very likeable. Unfortunately, these close friends he now hates are my dearest friends. And now because of this, Mark's old friends now acted strange, like they want me to go away from them as soon as possible. I'm deeply hurt by this, knowing they're also my closest friends. I would cry every night, waking up to find that I'm stuck in a labyrinth of hatred. I would wipe my tears and go to school as usual. But I can't take it anymore. It's already hard enough for me to have problems at home. I may not look like a frail person in school, but deep down, I'm just a little girl who can only cry whenever signs of problems appear. I hate myself, I hate my life, I hate them! Why? Why must it always be me who is played around by people? Why do people enjoy it when I suffer? Why do I always let down people even though I tried my best not to? Why, why!? Why can't I trust anyone completely anymore? I'm tired.... I'm so tired of everything.... If God exists, why would God do this to me? Are my sins that horrible? Please save me. The only reason why I am still not dead is because I still have faith in my friends. But that too, is slowly fading....

Drill is a Man's Romance!

Hey guys~! I'm back! This time, I'm not gonna post a meme ( Since my teacher was practically begging for me not to strain her eyes with my memes anymore, I'm so sorry Miss!!! T_T) Now, I'm gonna fulfill my promise to write about what Konata-san ( She is eating a choco cornet beside this paragraph, and she's from the anime 'Lucky Star', by the way ) said in my last post.

So in one episode, she was having a conversation about going to the dentist with her friends. Since Konata-san has never visited a dentist before in her life ( Konata-san is seventeen years old... And yes, I was also taken aback by this ) and is also an avid otaku like me ( Otaku is an anime and manga maniac ), she pictured the description of a dentist's office in an extraordinary way. In something only thinkable by otakus.

Miyuki ( A NORMAL friend of hers ): There's that hospital smell or the nerve-wracking wait.
Tsukasa ( Another NORMAL friend of hers ) : Ooh! Ooh! And the sound of the drill gets me every time!
Konata: ( Imagines a giant robot wearing a dentist robe with drills as arms... ) Change getter! ( It's an anime reference)


Tsukasa: It's terrifying!
Konata: But guys probably like to go to the dentist's, right?
Tsukasa: Why?
Konata: Aren't drills like a man's romance? ( Another footage of the robot, drilling another robot ) Dinosaur empire! ( Gets excited) I've heard they love it when robots fight using drills!
( Silence ensues. Miscommunication has apparently been done)
Tsukasa: But they probably don't like having their teeth drilled. I've been wondering, aren't the receptionists and assistants usually pretty ladies?
Miyuki: Now that you mention it, it seems that way...
Konata: Wonder why...
Miyuki: Perhaps it's one of their hiring criteria.
Konata: Exclusively beautiful assistants and drills huh? ( And she starts to picture everything together...)

Then the dentist robot appeared out of nowhere, flashing its grinding drills. A cute and lovely nurse is next, giving a flirtatious wink to the audience with a giant syringe in her hands ( OH boy... ), and a giant airship that you only see in sci-fi movies appeared in the background.




Miyuki: That does indeed sound like something geared towards the males.

I can't help but notice that action movies have those three main elements in them. The first one is a protagonist with a cool weapon ( Thor has his all-mighty hammer Mjollnir, and Green Lantern has a ring. ),the second one is the hot chicks ( Every generation of Bond girls , and let's not forget the voluptuous Megan Fox in 'Transformers'), and the last one the out of this world concepts with a predictable happy ending ( Oh My God! I'm a superhero or an one-eyed mutant! I can't believe it! I have to save the whole world! And I saved it! Yay! ). But I wonder why guys love action movies so much ( drills -- or violence, is man's romance after all! ). I mean, I understand about the gorgeous vixens ( They grant the male audience a certain type of... Pleasure ) and the story line stuff ( Because if guys tear up watching action movies, they'll be considered weaklings. And boys generally are easy at tearing up.), but what's so pleasurable about the violence part? Yes, I'm a girl and I know it's not my place to ask this but I'm pretty curious about this. I don't feel any kind of joy at all when I watch a random guy punches another random guy's jaw. And I am also a self-proclaimed and widely-acknowledged tomboy, since I'm pretty sure I am born half-man. So, any guys who care to answer this for me?

- No. Not interested in having my face smacked.
